Agra - Taj Mahal

Located on the right bank of the Yamuna River in the Agra District, the Taj Mahal is considered to be the greatest architectural achievement in the whole range of Indo-Islamic architecture.

Jewel of Muslim art, it is one of the universally admired masterpieces of the world's heritage. Everybody is mesmerised by its beauty. I feel honoured to have been able to see this majestic piece of art in front of me and capture these shots.

For the short story, this immense mausoleum of white marble was built between 1631 and 1648 by order of the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his favourite wife Mumtaz Mahal. The Taj Mahal took 22 years to build and finally reached completion in 1653. This monument, considered one of the New Wonders of the World, astounds visitors for its symmetry, structural beauty, intricate calligraphy, inlaid gemstones, and magnificent garden. More than just a memorial in the name of a spouse, the Taj Mahal was a declaration of lasting love from Shan Jahan to his departed soulmate.
