Jaisalmer

Built on the foundation of yellow sandstone, Jaisalmer justifies its tag as the 'Golden City' of India.
It is believed to be one of the very few "living forts" in the world, as nearly one fourth of the old city's population still resides within it.
Jaisalmer represents the ethnic heart of the nomadic desert culture. The best way to discover it is to get lost in the colourful alleys of its Fort area.

The Golden City is located at the far end of the Thar Desert. This desert, known as the Great Indian Desert, is a large arid region that covers an area of 200,000 km2 and forms a natural boundary between India and Pakistan.  You can spend a night over there, have a little camel ride in the desert, a traditional dance show with talented musicians after the sunset, and the entire night sleeping in the middle of dunes in the desert, facing the stars shining. I keep a magical memory of it.
