Koeta - Mount Rinjani National park - Gili Air
Located near Bali island, Lombok has earned the first place in my heart. Maybe because it was the most audacious trip I've ever done by myself: hiking Rinjani Mount with locals, paragliding in the south of the island and diving for the first time in Gili Air. I felt alive: natural magnetism, adventurous hiking, untouched submarine life and white sandy beaches on both the island itself and its little sister Gili Air.
I started in the south of Lombok, at Koeta Beach, where I had the chance to discover the pretty landscapes the city offers; swim at Tanjung Aan Beach and its clear water, watch the sunset on Merese Hill, paraglide over the sea. I've spent most of my time with locals who appeared to be very kind, funny and helpful.
In the North of the island, at 3,726 m, you will find Rinjani Mount, the second highest volcano in Indonesia. Within its huge 50 km² caldera sits the crater lake Segara Anak (Child of the Sea). It was the best and most difficult hike I've tried so far (that lasted 2 days)! But what you admire at the end is speechless.
As a reward after Rinjani, I went straight to Gili Air where I found peace (there is no car on the tiny island), a passion for diving (so thankful to have found the perfect diver instructor who gave me enough confidence to do it by my own), good music on the beach (psytrance & techno) and the most spectacular sunsets I've observed.
